The Nature Trail Starts Here
It was a cloudy and gusty day. At least it was significantly drier than the following day. It rained and snowed all day.
Sculpted by Nature
The terrain between Las Vegas and Denver is interesting to look at. It ranges from the deserts to the snow capped mountains. There are hardly any towns.
An Unknown Fly
I am quite sure I missed lots of insects and, for sure, don't know most of them.
Don't Fly, Dragonfly
The dragonfly didn't shy away while I took some close up photos. I haven't gotten any good butterfly ones yet. The butterflies were quick and extremely shy.
Regular Housefly Up Close
It's probably my second most dislike pest in the world.
Three on a Mission
I have no idea the kind of ants they are. My guess is it's either ghost or fire ants.
One Thorn per Fruit
All of the fruits have a thorn to guard it. This plant means business.
Young Sugar-Apple Fruit
It looks like a green chili pepper.
Millipede on a Tree
We got a significant amount of rain in the past few days. Some of the soil dwellers took refuge to a higher and dryer ground, including this millipede.
Curious, but Cautious
Jumping Spider on a Guava Leaf
I had to stalk and wait for it to pose. Fortunately, it didn't run away and hide from the camera.
Almost Didn't See You There
The ants use almost anything to go to the higher ground, including this old rusted pole.
Texture and Pattern in Nature
Some interesting patterns on the leaves of this plant.
Blooming Weed Flowers
No Dandelion but we have this tiny weed. It happened to be blooming.
It Didn't Go Well for Mr. Fly
I was looking at the spider web and found this fly got into a sticky situation. A split second later, a tiny yellow spider came by. You probably can guess what happen next.
Fly Is Actually Hairy
I thought the backyard was only full of mosquitos. There were a few flies too. This guy hanging upside down on a mango leaf. I underestimated the amount of hair a fly has.
Cherry Red Fruit
An unknown tiny fruit on the ground. The ants and birds don't eat them. I am not that curious to find out what it tastes like, even though it looks appetizing.
Ants on Guard
I found more ants. This time, they were guarding this flower for some reason. I was able to observe them and they noticed me. I took some shots and left, without giving too much of a disturbance. I still haven't found their nest.
I found this lonesome ant scavenging the yard. I did see any nest around, but my guess is that it would be up on the mango tree somewhere. So, it went quite far away from home. I hope it found its way home.
Tiny LIttle Weed
It was so small, I almost stepped on this tiny thing.
I learned that macro photos look better with speedlight.
I had this idea to make a backlit macro photo of a leaf. Today happens to be the guava leaf kind of day.
Just Ordinary Bush
I have no idea what it is called. It is just a bush in the backyard. Bees, butterflies, and other insects feed out of its flowers.
