Jesus' resurrection is the ultimate reason of Easter nowadays. For Christians, Easter celebration has changed its meaning several times. At first it was a celebration of God's covenant with Abraham. As an act of obedience to God, Abraham was willing to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, but in the end replaced by a sheep. The tradition continues until God brought the Jewish people out of Egypt, freed from slavery. After this point in time, Easter was celebrated as Passover. Jesus' last supper was part of the celebration of the Passover. The Easter celebration we know today is a celebration of Jesus' resurrection; he died, as a sacrifice for our sins, and rose again to free us from consequences of our sins, so we can have eternal life. Easter bunny source is a mystery. Some say, it came with the German immigrants in the 1700s to America. Rabbits were celebrated as a symbol of fertility. With the celebration, the children of the immigrants would also decorated eggs. The eggs signify new life. Easter and the start of farmer's growing season usually happen during early Spring, so I guess it is possible that they were celebrated together. Hence, we now have Easter bunny and Easter eggs.
